Seminar Abstract:
So will share his personal experience in a high tech company. He will start with a quick exploration of Intel's company characteristics, then his view on engineers' career path, and his perspective of and suggestion for Asian born engineers in American high tech companies.
Speaker Biography:
Current responsibilities include Logic and Flash process technology development, the D2 wafer production plant, and Intel's maskoperations. So joined Intel in 1979 as a technology development engineer in Livermore. He has held a number of technical management positions in development and fabs, and became D2 Plant Manager in 1991. He assumed the Director of CTM role in 1998. So was born in Hong Kong in 1953. He
received his B.S. from the University of Hawaii in 1975, and his M.S./M.A./PhD from Princeton University in 1976/1977/1979 respectively, all in Electrical Engineering.

II. Chinese Engineer Career Development In American Globalized Company

Seminar Abstract:
The common strength and weakness of Chinese Engineers are analyzed and discussed. Self motivated mentality and situational leadership is emphasized. The English and communication capability improvement are also discussed. The Speaker uses his own experiences and observations to suggest certain key strategies and approaches for moving up faster in a multi-cultural and Globalize American Company.

Speaker Biography:
Gerald Yin was appointed Corporate Vice President of Applied Materials, Inc. in January of 1998. He also served as Chief Technical Officer, Etch Product Business Group, and General Manager, Silicon Etch Division. Since joining the Company in 1991, Dr. Yin has served as Director of Etch Technology and Engineering, Metal Etch KPU Manager,
managing Director of Etch New Product Development. He led the MERIE Product
Enhancement, DPS Metal Etcher, DPS Silicon Etcher and Dielectric Etcher Development and Product Introduction. DPS Metal and Silicon Etcher received The Best Product Awards in 1997 and 1998 respectively by SemiconductorInternational. Before Applied Materials, he was associated with Lam Research as Etch R&D Manager and Senior Manger where he led the Rainbow oxide etch system development and introduction, ECR etch system development and initiated TCP plasma etch technology. He was also associated with Intel Central TD as Senior Process Engineer. Before coming to the US, Dr. Yin was associated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences as Research Group
Supervisor, and received two national academic awards. Dr. Yin received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Physics from the University of Science and Technology in China in 1967. He spent 10 years in Catalyst Manufacturing, and Catalytical Research working for SINOPEC and the Academy of Sciences, China. In 1980, he came to the US and in 1984 he received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles.
He holds 30 patents and has more than 20 patents pending.
