 Outing to a Victorian Ball
Dear members and friends:
I am organizing a PKUAANC outing to Gaskell ball, a Victorian dance ball, in Oakland's
Scottish Rite Temple, on this coming Saturday,August 7.
This is a very big bimonthly dance event in the Bay Area and offers great fun to those who
like dancing. Up to a thousand party goers, many of them dressed in elegant traditional
costumes, dance waltz, polka, schottich, murzurka and other European court and folk dances
to a liveband.
The crowd is very lively. The dance floor is huge and of the best quality. The setting is
elegant and glamorous. The requirement for dance skill is from zero to expert. If you
don't have a traditional
costume, it is OK to come in modern formal dresses. The cost is only $10 per person. No
partner is required.
The dance starts at 7:45pm with a dance lesson and last till midnight. Scotish Rite Temple
is located on the shore of Lake Merritt, on Lakeside drive between 14th and 17th Street in
Oakland.

There will be four sets of dances. Please look for the Peking University group in the
lobby after the first set of dances (around 9:10pm). There is no carpool effort organized.
If you don't have transportation, I will try match a ride for you (no guarantee here).
