Topic of the Seminar:
Network processor - a new solution in network system design
Seminar Abstract:
The internet continues to grow fast after the dot com bust. As the
internet can provide great convenience to the users, its benefit is not
always without cost. A virus from the internet can intrude into your
system and easily cause you a huge price. So network security has become
a critical issue in today's internet world. How to design and develop a
fast, cheap and robust network device is thus becoming a hot topic in
networking industry.
In this talk, the speaker will briefly compare three different solution
models adopted by network system vendors: pure software model, ASIC
model and network processor-based model. Then he will introduce Intel
IXP2000 network processsor architecture and its programming model
followed by an application demo using the software development kits.
Finally he will discuss the current market of network security
applications in China and opportunities.
Speaker Bio:
Shaohua Han is a senior software engineer of Intel Compiler Lab. He has
been deeply involved in the compiler development for Pentium and Itanium
processors. He is now working on the C compiler for Intel IXP2000
network processor.
