Obituary

Dr. Huxiong Chen passed away peacefully on the 22^nd of January 2005 in San Jose, California, after a long, heroic battle against cancer. He was 46 years old.

He is survived by his father, Dr. Jingxiong Chen, his mother, Jufang Chang, and his elder sister, Shilei Chen.

Huxiong Chen was born in 1959 in Shanghai, China. He graduated from Peking University with a Bachelor Degree in Physics in 1982. He came to the United States in 1988 and earned his Doctoral Degree in Physics (Ph. D.) from Brown University in 1997. Subsequently he moved to San Jose, California, to work for IBM Corporation (Later Hitachi Corporation) as a senior engineer.

Huxiong Chen is dearly missed by his family and his many friends, whose lives had been touched in one way or another, at one time or another, by his love, friendship, generosity, dignity, dedication to friends and communities, courage to fight against the deadly disease, and loud yearning for life.

A Memorial Service in honor of the wonderful life of Huxiong Chen is scheduled to take place at 4 PM. on the 5^th of February 2005, at the address below,
